Grounded Student Ministry
To coincide with our church’s overarching vision of Rooted, Reaching and Replicating, we love the idea that teenagers are “grounded.” We want this to be the hope of our teenagers: that they “be rooted and grounded in Christ’s love… and they may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17). We want students to become mature disciples of Christ whose faith takes root in their teen years.
Our Student Ministry Approach
Sunday School
Our Sunday School groups are structured to help students learn how to study the Bible themselves using the 7 Arrows Method, where every week, they will break out into their small groups and ask the same 7 questions about a passage of Scripture, learning how to think through things like context, big ideas about God, man, sin, and move toward applying it to their lives. Students will come together as a group to close out with some teaching over the high points. We are working through the Pentateuch this fall!
Wednesday Nights
Our focus on Wednesday nights this year is on apologetics: how do we learn not just WHAT to believe, but WHY we believe it, and how can we defend it? We want to equip students to answer big questions about life, the universe, and everything so that they will grow in their knowledge of the faith and begin to confidently have conversations about their beliefs with others.
Our time begins with worship through music, followed by large group teaching over various topics, and ends with small group discussions about how the teaching applies in their culture today.
It’s a more relaxed atmosphere, because we want students to feel comfortable not just to bring hard questions and wrestle with them, but to develop deep relationships with students and leaders, learning and growing together as they take steps forward in their personal walk with Christ.
Other Events
Although our weekly meetings are the primary focus, we also want to plan events that help to supplement the kinds of relationships and practices that we hope to see in our students. This includes summer camp, retreats, DNOW weekends, or just normal hang-outs around Covington.
Gatherings:

A typical Wednesday night usually includes: hang-out time beforehand, a group game, and worshipping Jesus through: a) music, b) a large group teaching time, and c) small groups. We aim for a fun, engaging, and Christ-centered atmosphere!
