What to Expect
Welcome to First Baptist Covington!
Thank you for your interest in joining us for worship at First Baptist! If you are a guest, we’d love for you to take a moment to fill out our Guest Connection form so that we may follow up with you.
Music
Music and singing are an important part of our service. The aim of our music is to glorify God and not to drown out the congregation’s voice. Our services include a variety of songs, both contemporary and traditional, all intended to help us worship God and prepare our hearts to hear from God’s Word.
Prayers and Scripture Reading
We have a variety of prayers – confession, praise, thanksgiving, and pastoral supplication. We pray for needs inside and outside our church, knowing that the kingdom of God goes beyond our church. We also have a public Scripture reading from either the Old or New Testament.
Sermons
We are committed to expositional preaching, meaning that the point of the sermon is the point of the particular passage of Scripture. We typically select a book of the Bible and preach through it verse-by-verse, with sermons lasting approximately 45 minutes in length. Listen to a sermon.
Baptism & The Lord’s Supper
We regularly celebrate baptism and the Lord’s Supper as Christ commanded and as pictures of the Gospel. We partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of every month. All baptized believers who are in good standing of an evangelical church are welcome to partake of the Lord’s Supper.
Participation
If you are not a Christian, you are very welcome and should feel the freedom to participate in the service to whatever degree are comfortable. We do not expect you to affirm or sing about things you do not believe. You are more than welcome to sit and observe.
Attire
Attire ranges from “business” to casual attire. You are very welcome to wear something more casual or more formal in nature.
Childcare
On Sundays, we offer childcare for birth through 4 years old during both morning services. Children 5 and older are asked to stay in worship with their parents or guardian. Learn more about our philosophy for not having children's church.
All volunteers are required to have background checks and go through training to serve in our childcare.
