Church Membership
How to Join Our Church
Step 1:
Attend Regularly
We’d love for you to start regularly attending our Sunday morning worship service and consider plugging into a Sunday school class. Our morning worship service is foundational, and you’ll develop deeper relationships in our small group Sunday school classes.
Step 2:
Discover FBC
Periodically, we offer a Discover FBC class for those interested in learning more about membership. In this class, you’ll learn about our commitments, beliefs, leadership, and ministries. Attending Discover FBC does not obligate you to join, but it is an important step in understanding membership at First Baptist.
Step 3:
Membership Interview
Following Discover FBC, you’ll be invited to complete a membership introduction form and meet with a pastor for an interview. Don’t be intimidated! This is simply a time for us to hear your story, answer any questions you have about the church, and guide you through the next steps to joining. For some, it could mean learning more about continued discipleship or baptism before joining the church.
Step 4:
Belong
Upon recommendation to the congregation from our elders, candidates for membership are brought before our church during our members’ meetings. During these times, the congregation will collectively affirm the Lord's will for adding new members to the flock.
Why Church Membership?
Membership in a local church is biblical. It is rooted in an Old Testament understanding of the people of God and understood in the New Testament concept of those united in Christ and committed to “one anothering.” It is commanded in passages regarding assembly and accountability with other believers. It is viewed in metaphors of the church as a body, a family, a flock, and a temple.
What is Church Membership?
Membership in a local church is covenantal. Church membership is a commitment between believers in a local body, marked by agreement in belief and behavior, care for one another, and submission to spiritual leadership.
