Grounded Student Ministry

To coincide with our church’s overarching vision of Rooted, Reaching and Replicating, we love the idea that teenagers are “grounded.” We want this to be the hope of our teenagers: that they “be rooted and grounded in Christ’s love… and they may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17).

Our Student Ministry Approach

1. Relational Adult Leaders
Programs don’t make the difference in church; people do. And the people who make the most significant impact with our teenagers are our adult volunteers. They care for, love on, and have great relationships with the teens who come through First Baptist.

2. Intentionality
Each event and weekly program revolves around the goal of making disciples.

3. Transformational Discipleship
Our Wednesday night teaching plan centers around the core 8 Roots of the Gospel:

  • RESCUE helps students understand their need for a Savior (John 1:12).

  • OUTREACH helps students understand their God-given mission (Romans 10:14–15).

  • KNOWLEDGE helps students understand the basics of who God is (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

  • KINGDOM helps students understand how to live in the Kingdom of God every day (Luke 17:20–21).

  • IDENTITY helps students discover their unique identity in Christ (Genesis 1:27).

  • COMMUNITY helps students understand the meaning of biblical fellowship (James 1:27).

  • WORSHIP explores what it means to live a lifestyle of worship (Psalm 105:1).

  • APOLOGETICS prepares students to explain the hope they have in Christ (Peter 3:15).

4. Partnering with Parents
Because parents are the primary faith influencers of their children, our student ministry supplements and reinforces parents’ disciple-making efforts at home. See below for ways to stay informed on what we’re doing and how we communicate.

5. Student Leadership
Learning to lead is part of the discipleship process. Providing some leadership opportunities at church equips young disciples. Currently, we have students leading in these areas: tech ministry, worship ministry (playing and singing in our youth services and on Sunday mornings), childcare leadership, VBS leadership, and mission trip volunteers during the year.

*This approach is born out of the Leadertreks Strategy.
